A scientific experiment gone wrong is unleashed upon an unsuspecting world. A retrovirus, the crossbreeding of the genes of plants, animals, and humans, is accidentally released, creating a world of horrific mutations.
In just two days 90% of mankind has died; the rest are turned into hideous, murderous mutations. Only very few people seem immune to the virus and they have to struggle for survival in a now hostile and constantly changing environment.
Tom Keller is one of those survivors. He lives alone in an abandoned rocket launch base near the Belgian border. He thinks he is the only survivor-- that heÕs safe, that heÕs isolated from the horror. He soon learns-- he is not the only survivor, not safe and certainly not isolated from the horror to come!
Using a short-wave radio, he is able to contact other survivors who come to his base for safety. There, they try to establish a normal life, but as the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) evolve, the survivors learn that the fence around the base is no longer protecting them. In fact, staying at the base makes them prey to the ever-evolving mutants.
As the survivors take off to find new shelter, they learn about a second catastrophe heading their way. Putting aside their fear, anger, and grief, they head SouthÐ towards safety, towards hope, towards a new beginning for mankind...
